Obituary

In Loving Memory of Alfred J. Derochers, Sr.

Alfred J. Derochers, Sr., age 85, will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and hardworking family man whose greatest joy was the family he built, always putting the people he loved first.

Alfred shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joyce Derochers. Their enduring marriage was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Their life together was built on love, commitment, and dedication. Alfred was a proud father to three sons: Alfred J. Jr. (Janet), John (Karen), and Glenn (April) and grandfather to: Steven, Stephanie, Luke (Diane), Sam (Anika), Daniel, Carrie Ann (Garrett), and Jack (Madeline). His greatest happiness came from spending time with his family and watching it grow through the generations.

Alfred was born in Cambridge, MA as the oldest of thirteen siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Emil and Marie Antoinette Derochers and siblings Mary Ann Turcott, David Derochers, Betty (David) Worchester, Jeanette (Eddie) White, Edward Derochers, Catherine (Paul) Haynes and Walter Derochers. Surviving family members include brothers John (Sharon) Derochers, Paul (Cathie) Derochers, and George (Deborah) Derochers, sisters Rose (Bill) Duma and Claire Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

After graduating high school in Massachusetts, he joined the Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic. Once out of the service, he worked as a diesel mechanic then a specialized industrial printing press technician. This career gave him the opportunity to see the world. A true traveler, he visited 37 countries and proudly made it to all 50 states of the USA. His travels gave him the opportunity to experience different cultures and meet people from around the world - but he was always most happy to return to his home and community in Georgia.

Though he will be deeply missed, Alfred's legacy of love, loyalty, and family will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, his children, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, and all whose lives he touched.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday, November 5th at St. Phillip Benzi Catholic Church in Jonesboro, Ga from 10:00-11:00 am with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 am. He will be buried privately at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
