Amanda Burnham Roberts, age 91, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 23, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia, Amanda was the daughter of the late Thomas Leon Burnham and Willie Young Burnham. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carol Friddell Roberts.
Amanda was raised in Jonesboro and graduated from Jonesboro High School. She continued her education at the University of Georgia Atlanta Division, now known as Georgia State University. After marrying Carol, the two built a rich and fulfilling life together. They launched a business, raised a family, and enjoyed traveling throughout the state they adored. As their children attended the University of Georgia, Amanda and Carol proudly became devoted Bulldog fans.
Deeply committed to her community, Amanda was involved in numerous local organizations. She was active in the band boosters, historical preservation efforts, and local beautification projects. She was a proud member of the Jonesboro Women's Club and a charter member of Historical Jonesboro. One of her greatest joys was coaching girls' softball, and many in the community fondly remember her green thumb and extensive knowledge of gardening and landscaping.
Amanda is lovingly remembered by her children, Ginny (David) Ray of Lithia Springs and Ben (Molly) Roberts of Dacula; her grandchildren, Dr. Kathleen Ray of Jonesboro, Conor (Amanda) Ray of Acworth, Hogan (Alyssa) Roberts of Nashville, TN, and Sarah Roberts of Dacula; and her great-grandson, Charlie Ray of Acworth. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.
A celebration of Amanda's life will be held on May 15, at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church of Jonesboro. A visitation will take place prior to the service starting at 1:00 PM.
