Obituary

Mr. Barney Hugh Garrison of Morrow, GA passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2022, at the age of 81. His family, especially his loving wife Aileen of 59 years, grieves his death but also cherishes their fond memories of a life saturated with love, family, and determination.  He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Barto and Amzy Mae (Garrett) Garrison; and his siblings: Robert Garrison, Bruce Gilbert, Ruth Gilbert, Catherine Duffey, and Martha Mayes. He is survived by his wife: Aileen K. Garrison, daughters: Linda G. Christopher (Randy); Diane L. Bray (Chuck); his son: Robert E. Garrison (Kim); as well as thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Born on December 9, 1940 in Thomaston, GA, Mr. Garrison grew to become a committed man to his work, his hobbies, and his family. After serving in the US Army, he began his career as a welder and ultimately retired as a shop foreman from Starflex Corporation in Jonesboro, GA, after many years of loyalty and dedication. He was also a faithful member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in which he and his wife frequently worshiped the Lord. Additionally, he volunteered much of his time to the American Orchid Society where he maintained membership for forty-eight years. In fact, he served as a judge for the Society for thirty-six years, often traveling many miles to present and judge the finest orchids in the country. While this hobby credited him with national recognition and demanded his acute care, he invested in even more creativity by becoming a skilled wood craftsman who carved original walking sticks and canes for people in need. Most of all, he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, one of the kindest, caring men to ever walk the earth. He will be missed by all who knew him.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 11:00am at Ford-Stewart Funeral Home in Jonesboro, GA.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 591 Flint River Road, Jonesboro, GA 30238; Atlanta Orchid Judging Center, 1345 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, GA 30309; or a charity of your choice.
