Mrs. Betty Hughes, age 85 of Jonesboro passed away January 31, 2026. Mrs. Hughes was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Jonesboro. She was preceded in death by her son: Jason Bryan Hughes, parents: Sidney Minor Wheeler and Mary Duncan Barden, brothers: Steve Wheeler, Sidney Wheeler and Jay Maultsby and sister: Cecelia Maultsby. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend whose family was always at the center of her life. She dedicated many years to making others look and feel beautiful as a hair stylist. She owned and operated several beauty salons throughout her career. Also, she spent much of her life caring for her home and family, and serving in the church, school, and community where she lived. She found comfort in God, her family and her life long friendships. Her kindness and love for others brought joy to everyone who knew her. Betty will forever be remembered as a follower of Christ Jesus, her gentle spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and sheer delight that she brought into every room she entered. Her life leaves a lasting imprint on all who were fortunate to know her. She is survived by her husband of 58 years: Danny Hughes, daughter: Julie Hughes Farmer and husband: Lane of Jonesboro, sisters: Dawn Fleck and husband Gary of Fayetteville, NC and June Thompson of WA State, grandson: Stuart Farmer and wife: Michaela, granddaughter: Sydney Farmer and great-granddaughter: Kensley Kincaid. Funeral Services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, February 7, 2026 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church Jonesboro , 147 Church St. Jonesboro, GA 30236, with Rev. Allen Davis and Rev. Lanson Newsome officiating. Mrs. Hughes will lie in state from 12 PM – 1 PM, prior to the Service. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, 6841 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, GA 30236. The family will receive friends 5 PM – 7 PM Friday, February 6, 2026 at the funeral home.
