Obituary

Dr. Bob Livingston passed away April 5, 2015. He was 80 years old and a long term resident of Clayton County, living many years in Jonesboro, GA. Dr. Livingston, along with his identical twin brother Bill, was born September 7, 1934 in Belzoni, MS to Ennis and Ewing Livingston. He was an outstanding multi-sport athlete in high school and earned a scholarship to play basketball at Milsaps College in Jackson, MS. Dr. Livingston spent 41 years serving the Clayton County school system, starting as a math teacher at Forest Park High School. Subsequently, he transferred to North Clayton High School, where he taught math and science, was a coach, and eventually became an Assistant Principal. He was appointed the first Principal of Mundy's Mill Junior High School in 1974, serving there until becoming the Superintendent of Clayton County Schools in 1990. He was the last elected Superintendent in the county, winning his election by an overwhelming 2 to 1 margin. After retiring in 1994 he continued to serve the school system, serving on the School Board for another two years. Dr Livingston was a veteran, serving two years active duty in the Army and four years in the National Guard. He was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Lake Spivey Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice of Lake Spivey Country Club; daughter and son-in-law JoAnn and Jeff Pieter of Brooks, GA; grandchildren Kyle and Dakota Pieter; mother-in-law Edna Thatcher of Mountain View, AR; brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Deloris Jerome of Eudora, KS, Mike and Peggy Tinkle of Hot Springs, AR, Joe Thatcher of Mountain View, AR, Johnny and Becky Thatcher of Locust Grove, GA and many nieces and nephews in Mississippi, Arkansas and Georgia. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015, 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Carmack officiating.
