Bonnie Jo Johnson of Barnesville passed away April 10, 2026.
Bonnie was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Jo and Sydney Johnson on September 26, 1940. At an early age, she began piano lessons and became a very accomplished pianist. After graduating from Grady High School, Bonnie attended Truett-McConnell College but after one year returned home. Bonnie worked various office jobs in Atlanta and finally settled down in the food industry. Bonnie attended the First Baptist Church of Atlanta as well as Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church where she was a faithful adult choir member.
In 2000, Bonnie's mother had a stroke and was hospitalized. Her mother went to Christian City in Union City, Georgia for rehabilitation and Bonnie moved into Christian City as well. A year or so later, Bonnie's mother passed away and Bonnie moved to Baptist Inn in Stockbridge, Georgia to be closer to her family. A few years later, Baptist Inn relocated to Palmetto, Georgia and was renamed Baptist Manor.
Bonnie remained at Baptist Manor until her sight began to fail. She then moved to Heritage Inn Nursing Home in Barnesville, Georgia where she lived until her death. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her uncle Bob Baker, who was her guardian. Bonnie is survived by her cousin Jo Baker, who was her caregiver, as well as cousins Sarah Cotter and Bill Baker and many second cousins.
She will be interred next to her mother at the Summerville City Cemetery in Summerville, Georgia at a later date.
