Obituary

Brenda Carter, 77, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2025.

Affectionately known as "Mamaw", she brought joy, laughter and unconditional love to everyone lucky enough to know her. She found her greatest happiness with her grandchildren at the beach, Jimmy Buffet playing in the background, and a smile on her face. A devoted lover of Bob Seger, The Eagles, reading, peace signs, and all things "moose", she had a one-of-a-kind spirit that was equal parts fun, sassy and kind.

Her generosity knew no bounds – whether it was shopping to donate to seniors and children at Christmas or simply being the listening ear someone needed. She was the queen of witty sarcasm, fueled by Werther's hard candies, A&W root beer, and a well-timed "It is what it is". You always knew she would get the last word in, and she probably told you she was cold while doing it.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, T.J. McKissic; her mother Rachel Chastain Baker; her father Leon Johnson Carter, Sr.; and her brother, Leon Johnson Carter Jr.

Brenda is lovingly remembered by her children: Kimberlee Tolbert of Jonesboro, Susan (Steve) Roberson of McDonough, and Tommy (Norah) McKissic of Hiram. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Pat McKissic and sister-in-law Lynda Carter, her cherished grandchildren: Kaitlyn Thacker, Kristyn (Josh) Wing, Kameron Thacker, Spencer Roberson, and Landyn Roberson; and her great-grandson, Fischer Wing. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She reminded everyone she loved them more, and she truly did. In honor of her memory, she wouldn't want tears – she'd want you to go have a drink, laugh a little louder, and remember the good times. That's how she lived, and that's how she'd want to be celebrated.
At this time, no formal services are planned – as she used to say, "I'll be right back".
