Mr. Byron "Butch" Hand, age 87 of Hampton passed away October 1, 2022. Butch graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1954 where he excelled in every sport and was voted "Most Athletic" in his senior year. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1954-1957, beginning his service at Parris Island. While in the Marine Corp, he was a Quarterback with the U.S. Marines Football Team. In January 1963, he opened Butch's Chicken House and retired on New Year's Eve 1999. Butch was a big supporter of all athletics in Jonesboro, he was generous and humble and always giving back to the community. He is survived by his partner of 18 years: Peggy Cox, sons: Darryl (Pat Sebo) Hand of Jonesboro, Owen T. (Celeste) Hand of Newnan and Wade (Kelly) Hand of Hampton, step-children: D. J. Ray of Griffin, David (Renee) Dumas of Peachtree City and Brenda (Ronnie) Lucas of Hollonville, brother: Roy (Barbara) Hand of Fayetteville, sisters: Louise Fowler of Fayetteville and Martha Stancil of Morrow, sister-in-law: Kathleen Hand of Alpharetta, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022 at the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home with Chaplain Winfred Dixon officiating. The family will receive friends 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the funeral home.
