Obituary

For Carl "Butch" DeMarco, family was everything. It shaped who he was and influenced every moment of his life.

Born on September 19, 1939, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Daniel and Marie DeMarco, Carl learned early the value of hard work, loyalty, and devotion to those he loved. After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, he fell in love with Carol Hempel, the woman who would become his partner in life for decades to come.

Carl and Carol began their life together in New Jersey, raising three rambunctious but deeply loved boys. In 1965, Carl began working for Eastern Airlines, a career that led the family to Hollywood, Florida in 1967 and later to Morrow, Georgia in 1972.

In 1985, Carl and Carol took a leap of faith and established Gorilla Golf Outlet in Riverdale, Georgia. Carl and Carol and the family poured their hearts into the business, building not only a successful company but lasting friendships with customers who soon felt more like family. After years of hard work, Carl and Carol after deciding to retire, sold the business in 1999 so they could spend more time doing what they loved most, enjoying the golf course and cherishing their growing family.

Over the years, that family continued to grow. Carl welcomed three daughters-in-law as his own daughters and delighted in becoming Poppy to five grandchildren: Jonathan, Kimberly, Christopher, Cecily, and Kendall. In later years, eight great-grandchildren brought him endless joy, laughter, and pride.

Carl took tremendous pride in the family he and Carol built from the love they first shared with one another. Watching that love grow across generations was one of the greatest blessings of his life. He would have been the first to tell you that he had the greatest family in the world, and he believed it with all his heart. In his mind, there was never any doubt.

Carl passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Marie DeMarco; his brothers, Arnold and Daniel DeMarco; and his sister, Dorothy Phillips.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol; his sons, Carl John (Leslie) DeMarco, Thomas Guy (Penny) DeMarco, and Christopher (Laura) DeMarco; his sister, Carol (Jack) Sievert; his sister-in-law, Charlotte DeMarco; his grandchildren, Christopher (Shanon), Jonathan (Kyndall) DeMarco, Kendall (Casey), Cecily (Bryan), Kimberly DeMarco, his great-grandchildren, Trey Burch, Gavin DeMarco, Branson Petree, Kason Petree, Chance Hasekeoster, Laikyn DeMarco, Jaxon Wolcott, and Lucas Wolcott; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Though his family grieves the loss of the man who meant so much to them, they find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on in every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild who carries forward the love, strength, humor, and devotion that defined his life.
