Obituary

COOK – Carol Joy (Ashcroft) Cook, age 87, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away April 6th, 2026. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Carol grew up as one of two sisters before her family relocated to the "Peach State" of Georgia. It was there, at Andrew College in 1958, that she met the love of her life, Wayne. The two shared a historic bond as the very first "Andrew Sweethearts." In her youth, Carol was an accomplished and refined musician, best known for her lovely soprano voice and her mastery of the piano. She shared her gift generously, as she was a devoted teacher and through the ever-present melodies that filled her home with warmth and joy. Carol spent a dedicated career in office work. Carol had worked as a secretary at various churches, as well as a claim adjuster at All-State. In her later years, she found quiet joy in sending cards to those she loved. No matter the occasion, or even without one, you could always count on a note from Carol arriving in the mail, a simple but heartfelt reminder that you were in her thoughts. Above all, Carol was defined by her unwavering love for Christ. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, a legacy of devotion she carefully passed down to her children and grandchildren. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Carol's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Carol is preceded in death by her loving husband, Phillip Wayne Cook; her parents, Howard & Anna (Simcox) Ashcroft; and sisters, Alma Louise Ashcroft, and Gwendoyln Mary Sickimich. Carol is survived by her children, Paul (Margie) Cook, David (Melissa) Cook, Danny Cook, Margaret (David) Duncan; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026 at 11:00am, at Three Point Bible Church, 7576 Southlake Parkway, Jonesboro, Georgia, 30236. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Camp Memorial Cemetery, 1095 Highway 54 East, Fayetteville, Georgia 30214. Carol was a devoted secretary at Three Point Bible Church, where she faithfully served her church family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church to continue the work she cared deeply about. Arrangements by Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. 2047 SR-138 W, Jonesboro, Georgia 30237.
