Obituary

Carrie Garrett Burt, 98, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

Born on December 2, 1926, in Albertville, Alabama, Carrie was the daughter of the late Sarah Jane Bryson and Luther Moody Garrett. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Wallace Burt, her daughter, Karen Dixon, and her siblings Bertha Bailey, Leck Garrett, Jack Garrett, and Nadine Broyles

Carrie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cassy (Jeff) Sims of Jonesboro and Sharon (Glenn) Smith of Clearwater; and her grandchildren, Alison Gebhardt, Nathaniel Sims, Matt Dixon, Bevin Hunter, Sydney Hayter, and Samantha Smith. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Andrew Gebhardt, Will Gebhardt, Ian Sims, Rowen Hunter, Dylan Hunter, Matthew Dixon, and Madison Dixon, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Carrie retired from The Telephone Company (Southern Bell, Bell South and eventually AT&T). She was a survivor of Breast Cancer and volunteered many years to support others as they navigated that disease. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed decades of work and fun activities with her church. Carrie had lots of time to travel with her husband driving around the country, enjoying their beach home, and "cruising". And she always looked forward to bus tours with her church and her sister Nadine. Carrie was an avid learner, was valedictorian of her high school senior class, and enjoyed many classes at the local college in her retirement. She loved to read, knit and crochet, and always had a puzzle going.

Carrie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always eager for and delighted in those very special visits from the Grands and GreatGrands. She will be deeply missed.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park, 6841 Tara Boulevard, Jonesboro, Georgia, where Carrie will be laid to rest.
