In honoring the life and legacy of Charles "Charlie" Wesley Banks, Sr., we celebrate a remarkable man whose love for God, family, and community shone brightly in all he did. Born on May 4, 1939, and was called home on May 3, 2025, Charles walked a path rich in faith, purpose, and service, dedicating himself to the people he cherished most.

A proud graduate of Campbell High School, Charles continued his education at Reinhardt College and LaGrange College, furthering his commitment to lifelong learning. His desire to uplift those around him was evident in his community involvement. As a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Clayton County, he dedicated countless hours to serving others, embodying the spirit of Philippians 2:4, which encourages us to "not merely look out for our own personal interests, but also for the interests of others."

Charles was a founding member of the Banks Coffee Club, where friendships blossomed over warm mugs and engaging conversations, a testament to the valued connections he cultivated throughout his life. Additionally, he was a valued member of the FBCJ James Gang, where his faith and camaraderie with fellow believers strengthened the bonds of community.

In his professional life, Charles was a successful and hardworking retail entrepreneur, establishing notable businesses such as Banks Men's and Boy's Shop, Old National Men's Shop, and Banks Paint and Supply. His dedication to excellence and service set an example for his family and community, reflecting the principles found in Colossians 3:23: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

At the center of Charles's life was his beloved wife, Carolyn, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of love for 62 years. Their commitment to each other served as a beacon of enduring love, mirroring the sacred bond described in Ephesians 5:25, which calls husbands to love their wives just as Christ loved the church.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Katherine Banks, who laid the foundation of love and faith that guided him throughout his life. He is survived by his sons, Wes (Tamara) and Bill (Juli), who carry on his legacy of love and faith, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Wesley (Nichole), Isaac, Ruth, Coulter, Noah, Rachel, and his cherished great-grandchildren: Elena and Bennett. Each of them reflects the joy and pride Charles found in family, affirming the truth in Proverbs 17:6: "Grandchildren are the crown of old men, and the glory of sons is their father."

As family and friends gather to remember Charles, let us find solace in the promises of Scripture. In John 14:1-3, Jesus assures us of a place prepared for us, bringing hope and comfort in our time of mourning: "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you."

Charles Wesley Banks Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and community involvement, encouraging all who knew him to embrace life with the same joy and gratitude he exemplified. May his spirit continue to inspire us, guiding us to cherish our loved ones and express our thankfulness to God for the lives we share.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Rev. Allen Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM till 2:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in College Park.
