Obituary

Charles Gary Poole, 86, of Jonesboro, Georgia transitioned to heaven on March 25th, 2017 at his home, The Palms of Lake Spivey following his battle with Parkinson's. He is survived by his wife of 51years, Vickie (Bates) Poole; his daughter, Charla and her husband Michael Turner; his grandchildren, Micha, Presley, and Madelyn Turner; his sister, Anne Mikszewski and her husband John; his brother-in-law, Bill Bates and his wife Helen; many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Grady and Thelma Poole of Atlanta; his brothers, Art Poole, Leon Brooks and sister, Frances Crowell. After serving in the United States Army, Mr. Poole had the opportunity to work at the National Screen Movie Service booking movies to theatres. This led to a job with the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. where he inspected daily Vietnam War Films. He later went to work at the Justice Department of the Atlanta Penitentiary where he retired in 1992. He enjoyed cars, old movies and his family. He was a past member of the Western Twirlers Square Dancers, which he enjoyed with his wife. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play football, basketball, cheerleading, and anything else they decided to do. He attended Capital View Baptist Church, Corinth Baptist Church and Turning Point Church. He served in the children's ministry and was one of Turning Point's founding members. He was admired by everyone he met as he was gentle and mild, fair in all his dealings. He was a great husband, father, uncle, brother, cousin, friend and grandfather. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Turning Point Church. Pastor Michael Turner will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 27, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
