David Barry Cotter, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather of McDonough, Georgia passed away after a short battle with cancer on July 15, 2023 at the age of 69. Barry is survived by his wife, Sarah Baker Cotter; his children, Catherine Barnes (Derek Barnes and grandson, Ryan Barnes); David Cotter (Lana Cotter); and Charles Cotter; brothers, Mark Cotter (Mary Pratt-Cotter) and Walter Cotter (Patricia Cotter), and other extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his father, David James Cotter; and his mother, Joann Wood Cotter.
David Barry Cotter was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on March 24, 1954 to David and Joann Cotter. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1972 and Georgia Tech in 1977 with a degree in management. On September 5, 1987, he married Sarah, a nurse and the love of his life. On June 12, 1989, September 11, 1990, and January 10, 1995 respectively, he welcomed his three children, whom he loved dearly. His only grandson was welcomed on October 24, 2014.
Barry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, Sunday School teacher, and Trail Life Leader. He enjoyed serving the Lord in his local church, Salem Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and member for over 20 years. He started Troop 99 with Boy Scouts in 1999 and started Trail Life at Salem in 2018. He loved serving in these ministries and touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Paul bearers are lifelong friends Craig Keener, Mark Miller, Jerry Wainright, Jim VanGorder, Jason Carey, and Chris Sawyer.
Visitation is scheduled for 6:00-8:00p.m. on Thursday, July 20th at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough. Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00pm on Friday, July 21st at Salem Baptist Church. Pastor Rick Statham will officiate. Mr. Cotter will be placed in state at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
