Edward Bennan Southerland, age 89, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Born on March 19, 1936, in Sparks, Georgia, Edward was the son of the late Janie Lee Crumpton and Wilma Southerland. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann Sorrell.

Edward proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in the1950s, before working as a machinist at PCI, where he remained until his retirement. During his working years, he maintained nuclear power plants around the country and the world. He was a dedicated fan of the University of Alabama football team, attending numerous games throughout his life. Roll Tide.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of 67 years, his children, Tracey Pickens, Lisa Southerland, and Nancy (Jim) Melcher; his brothers, William Southerland (Margaret, deceased) and Johnny Southerland (Angela); his grandchildren, Joshua (Victoria) Owen, Drew Wilkinson, and Samantha Pickens; and his great-grandchildren, Gabby Robson, Scarlett Owen, Tony Owen, and Izzy Owen. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, along with many extended family members and friends.

The family is planning a private service at a later date.
