Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Blalock Sligh age 86 of Suches, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away January 31, 2023, after a brief illness.   Mrs. Sligh was a 1954 graduate of Jonesboro Senior High, where she was a homecoming queen, a Campus Beauty Queen, a cheerleader, a member of the band, and a yearbook art editor. After graduating from high school she worked for Delta Airlines, where she was crowned Golden Crown Queen (the very first Miss Delta Airlines) in 1955. In 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, George Sligh.  Although that marriage ended in divorce, she continued to love and remain close to her Sligh family throughout her life-especially her sister-in-law, Marsha Sligh Chambers. Throughout the years, she worked as a legal secretary (which she loved) and then as an administrative assistant in banking until her retirement from Wachovia in 1998. Until moving to her daughter's home in Suches, she was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro and would always consider that "home." She loved the history of Jonesboro and always enjoyed sharing it with others.  She was an active member of the Jonesboro Historical Society and served as a docent at Stately Oaks. She loved her church and prior to her move to north Georgia, was an active member at First Christian Church of Jonesboro. She was also a loyal and long time supporter of the Clayton County Humane Society. Ann loved to cook, sew, play the piano, was an extremely talented artist, and loved her Georgia Dawgs. However, the greatest love and joy of her life was her family-especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel Eugene Blalock and Louise Allen Blalock, and brother: Samuel Eugene Blalock, Jr. She is survived by her children: Robin Sligh (Stephen) Rawls of Jonesboro and Lisa Sligh (Willard) Arbour of Suches; grandchildren: Bree Rawls See (Jennie), Calen Arbour Morales (Marco), Hannah Arbour McKinnon, Samuel Case Arbour; great grandchildren: Iliana Elizabeth Morales, Bentley See, and Adrian Morales; sister: Emily Gaddis of Darien, GA; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. The family wishes to acknowledge and express their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice in Gainesville.  Their exemplary kindness and compassion in Mom's last days were truly a blessing.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 25 at 2 pm. Services will be at First Christian Church of Jonesboro with Pastor Wade Hall officiating.
