Mr. Frederick C. McDowell, age 79, of Stockbridge, GA, passed away, June 20, 2014 after a long illness. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Fitzgerald, GA and was known there as the "Fitzgerald Flash," for his many medals in high school track. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He loved sports and was an avid golfer. Mr. McDowell was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro for 30 plus years and also served as a Deacon. He is survived by his wife, Martha; son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Linda McDowell of Atlanta; grandson and wife, Adam Wesley and Ashley McDowell of Atlanta. Funeral services will be held, at 2 PM on Monday, June 23, 2014 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Rev. Irvin Pearre and Rev. Hinton Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from noon till service time the day of the service. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, GA with Rev. Farise Taylor officiating.
