George R. Burt, a good man, age 95, of Jonesboro passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015. His first job was at a Gulf Oil Gas Station in 1937 working his way up in the company and retired Sr. Dir. of Industrial Relations in 1983. He served in WWII from 1940-1945. Mr. Burt went to the University of Pittsburgh where he received a BS degree Summa Cum Laude and Beta Gamma Sigma in 1949. He graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1959. His family followed his Gulf Oil work, making homes in New York, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston and then retirement in Jonesboro, GA in 1985. He was a member of Jonesboro First United Methodist Church. He is survived by wife: Margaret "Peggy" Burt; son: David Allan Burt of Stockbridge; grandchildren: Catherine Burt Whitlock, and Jennifer Burt Rycyk; great grandchildren: Austin A. Whitlock, Cara Grace Whitlock, and Reagan C. Rycyk; many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial Services will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Jonesboro First United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. George Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends 3-4 PM at the church before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, 142 S.
