Obituary

Mr. Grady Burnett Newsome, 85 of Jonesboro, GA passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 15th, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.
Grady was born on March 19th, 1937 at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta to Cemp Burnett Newsome and Lillie Allen Newsome, both of Atlanta. He was an only child. He was married to Yvonne Raines, on November 18, 1960 at Confederate Ave Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.
Grady excelled at baseball at an early age and played short stop for the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Team.
After serving in the Army, Grady was employed by Georgia Highway Express, which later became Transus, first on the dock and then as a local driver in the Marietta/Smyrna area. Over a 40 year career as a truck driver, Grady earned numerous safe driving awards and certificates. After retiring, Grady continued to work at various jobs until June 2021.
Grady loved his three grandchildren with a passion. He enjoyed supporting them in whatever sport, hobby or interest they participated in.
He was a Georgia Bulldog, New York Yankees and Nascar fan. Grady never met a stranger, loved to joke around, aggravate those he loved and could carry on a conversation with anyone that he met. In fact, he rarely went anywhere when he didn't run into someone he knew! He will be missed and remembered dearly by all who knew and loved him.
