Obituary

Mrs. Gwendolyn Wilson Collier, a resident of Jonesboro, age 89, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Goldencrest Assisted Living Facility. She was born in Meansville, GA to the late Benjamin Wilson and Annie Bell Hancock Wilson. In addition to her parents and brother, she was preceded in death by her husband A.C. "Bo" Collier. Gwen was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro for 13 years. Prior to that she was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Forest Park for 34 years where she taught a Sunday School class, sang in the choir, and was the church clerk. She was a prayer warrior for many as she served Christ faithfully. Gwen was a retired educator of 35 years. Most of her years were spent teaching at Griffin High School and Forest Park High School. She was a well respected teacher that influenced many young people during her career. She was active in her community where she was a past president of Clayton County Retired Teachers, Pilot Club and Chairperson of Artist with Disabilities. Gwen displayed a servant's heart by ministering to many people through sending cards and notes to friends and family. She was a woman of strong faith, but more importantly lived her faith everyday. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, caring mother, and doting grandmother. Her life will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. Surviving are her son: Al Collier and wife Patti of Jonesboro, daughter: Denise Bowen and husband Charles of Jonesboro. Grandchildren: Clay Collier, Matt Collier, Cameron Bowen, Claire Collier and Brittany (Clay) Phillips, and special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro with Rev. Phillips Gilbert and Rev. Irvin Pearre officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Fincher Memorial Cemetery in Meansville, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Jonesboro, Missions Fund, P.O. Box 773, Jonesboro, GA 30237.
