Harvie Samuel Berry, age 79, of Morrow, passed away December 16, 2021, while being cared for at Southwest Christian Care, surrounded by his loving family.
Harvie was born in College Park, Georgia, and graduated from Forest Park High School in 1960.  After attending Massey Business College in Atlanta, he worked for the federal government for five years.  He joined Delta Airlines in 1966 as a computer specialist and retired after more than 37 years.
In 1965 he married Vicki Maloy.  They settled in Morrow, where they raised three children.  Family was important to Harvie, and he took pride and joy in his children's and grandchildren's activities and achievements.
Harvie loved sports, especially baseball.  He also played and coached softball, bowled and golfed in tournaments, and enjoyed fishing, always preferring participating to spectating.  And he was a diehard Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan.  He also loved to travel, enjoyed playing cards, going to movies, and eating out.  Harvie loved life.
Harvie loved God, and his faith was central to his life.  He was an ordained deacon, and regarded it as an honor, but even more as a responsibility to serve.  And serve he did, working with children and youth ministries for more than 40 years, teaching Sunday School, helping out with youth activities, driving the church bus, and doing whatever he could with his servant's heart to set a good example for others.  Many students at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy, where he drove the bus for field trips, affectionately called him "Granddaddy."
Harvie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vicki (Maloy) Berry; his children Tracy (Ron) Berridge, Stacy (Chris) Smith, and Harvie J (Kristie) Berry; his grandchildren Ian (Emily) Berridge, Joshua (Margaret) Smith, Ariana (Landon) Ragusa, Nathaniel (Samantha) Smith, Isa Berry, Anna Berry, and Sophia Berry; his great granddaughter, Abigail Smith; and nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Jessie Berry; his second mom, "Mama Cleo" Berry; his siblings, Otis Berry, Jr., Jerry Berry, Bela Berry, Henry Berry, and Faye Carson.
A celebration of Harvie's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Hampton First Baptist Church, 85 McDonough St., Hampton, Pastor Craig McAdams officiating.  Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, Dec. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ford Stewart Funeral Home, 2047 Highway 138 S.E., Jonesboro.
