Hugh Dorsey Griffis, Jr., age 85, of Milner, Georgia, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Born on December 9, 1939, in Georgia, Dorsey was the son of the late Pauline and Hugh Dorsey Griffis, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Lytelle Griffis and Helen Martin.

Dorsey was a proud graduate of the University of Georgia and a longtime member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He served honorably in the United States Army for five years, including time in Vietnam. Following his military service, Dorsey enjoyed a fulfilling career as a pilot with Eastern Airlines until his early retirement.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Katie Griffis of Milner; his children, Joan (Roy) Hazelrig of Milner, Dawn (Dave) Blile of Milner, and Ken (Stephanie) Griffis of Stockbridge; and his sister, Mildred Folsom. Dorsey was a proud grandfather to Christopher (Robin) Dickerson, Carey (Anna) Dickerson, Kevin (Meagan) Dickerson, Krista Dickerson, Russell (Dallas) Hazelrig, and Kayla (Bryan) Bowers, and a cherished great-grandfather to fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Above all Dorsey enjoyed the time invested with his family as he watched them grow. His faith gave them hope and his quiet strength and steady love was the cornerstone of his family legacy.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Tara Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dave Blile. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Tara Baptist Church, beginning at 12:00 PM. Following the service, Dorsey will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
