Mrs. Iva Jones Parker, age 86, of Jonesboro, GA, passed away, September 1, 2013 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. She was the wife of the late Donald Lamar Parker and a long-time member of the Church of Christ at Forest Park, GA. She was born, October 22, 1926, in Lowndes County, GA., she was a daughter of the late Irvin William Jones and Verdie Duggan Jones. Mrs. Parker graduated from Pine Grove High School in Lowndes County, GA, and from Georgia-Florida Commercial College in Atlanta. She was one of the first Civil Service employees at Moody Air Force Base when it opened during World War II. Later she moved back to Atlanta and was employed by Eagle-Lion Films. This is where she met her future husband, Donald Parker, whom she married in July of 1949. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Irvin Jones, Jr., a sister, Audrey Jones Peters; and a nephew, Joel Peters, III. She is survived by her two sons, Donald Parker, Jr. and wife, Linda of Jonesboro; Darryl Parker and wife, Pam, of Locust Grove; two sisters, Verdie Carter and Francine Coppage of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Chris Parker, Huntsville, AL, Bryan Parker, Fayetteville, Zachary Parker, Cameron Parker, and Amber Parker of Jonesboro; five great grandchildren, Chandler, Julian, Dane, Keatyn and Emma. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, September 4, 2013, in the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. Steve Vice, minister of the Forest Park Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will be at Camp Memorial Park in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
