Mr. James H. Slaten Jr, age 91 of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023. Mr. Slaten a graduate of Georgia State University, served honorably in the U.S. Army. His service included combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. He was married to his wife Dorthy for 63 years. Together with their children, they traveled the country from Puerto Rico to Alaska and many states in between.After retiring from the military, he was an Airfield Supervisor for the US Postal Service for more than 20 years. He was also a member and Deacon of Valley Hill Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James H. Slaten Sr. and Almedia Slaten, spouse; Dorothy L. Slaten, siblings; Gay Washam and Patrick Slaten. He is survived by his children; Jim Slaten (Barbara) of Rancho Cucamonga, Ca, Tim Slaten (Glynnis) of Jasper, Ga, Susan Hyde of McDonough, Ga. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 at 1 PM in the chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ga. with Reverend Keith Barksdale officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 3-5 P.M. at the funeral home.
