James "Jim" W. Martin, age 88, of Jonesboro, passed away, January 6, 2015. He was hired by Eastern Air Lines in 1949 as one of their original male flight attendants. He retired from Eastern after 37 years in 1986. He enjoyed woodworking and knife collecting. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife Betty; children, Gail M. (Ken) Thaxton of Fayetteville, Sue M. Foley of St. Augustine, James "David" Martin of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Lt. Col. Max C. (Beth) Weems of AL, Ryan (Kristen) Thaxton of Cumming; great grandchildren, Emily Weems, Michael Weems, Lauren Weems, Reese Thaxton and Cole Thaxton. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2015 in the chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
