Obituary

Joe Burns Hamilton, 83, of Jonesboro, Georgia and a native of McCalla, Alabama passed away on January 11, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherry; children Jennifer Hamilton of Mesa, Arizona; Jeoff and Michelle Hamilton of Fayetteville; Georgia; grandchildren Bryant and Lizzie; and step daughter Angie Norris of Stockbridge, Georgia.  Joe was a veteran and served in the Marines. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and his alma mater Auburn University. He was a supportive and proud father and grandfather who loved time with his family and friends. He had a gift for conversation, as well as writing and telling stories. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and generosity.  Joe was the owner of Lake Spivey Golf Club for over 35 years, known for his dedication and kindness. He was the first president and cofounder of the Lake Spivey Rotary Club, and a Rotarian for over 30 years. A devoted and respected leader in the community, Joe received the honor of having the "Joe Hamilton Recreational Trail" named after him. It reads: The proprietor of Lake Spivey Golf Club, Joe Burns Hamilton devoted his life to his community. His resources and hospitality provided decades of inspiration and opportunity for the youth of Clayton County. Through his vision and commitment to the environment, our community is a better place to live. This trail is the result of his generosity.  The visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22nd from 1pm to 3pm at Ford Stewart Funeral Home located at 2047 Highway 138, Jonesboro, GA 30236.  The Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 23rd from 3pm to 5pm at the home of Michael Edmondson and Karen Powers at 2714 Emerald Drive, Jonesboro, GA 30236.  In lieu of flowers, we ask you make a donation to the Rotary Foundation, Box P.O.
