Mr. John Ivan Born, age 86, of Rex passed away August 2, 2014 after a long illness. Ivan was employed by Beaudry Ford, Inc., downtown Atlanta for 53 years before his retirement in 2001 as partner and Secretary/Treasurer-a highly efficient administrator/accountant. He was married to his lifetime sweetheart and wife for 65 years, Betty Phillips Born. Through his lifetime membership at The Rock Baptist Church, Rex, and as a Born-Again believer, Ivan served as Deacon since 1963 and, at various times, Finance/Stewardship/Commitment Leader. He was an Eagle Scout, BSA and a Master Mason. He always strived to assist others in reaching their goals in life. Ivan was an avid stock car racing fan, and a forever booster of Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He believed that is was important to do what's right, do your best and care about people, and to keep smiling! Ivan was youngest of the three sons of Augustus (Gus) P. and Mary Mayo Born. He was predeceased by brother, Roger Born and sister, Elizabeth Born Martin, and is survived by his brother, Harmon (and Ruby) Born of Rex, and sister-in-law, Essie D. Born of Jonesboro. Ivan had no children, but loved and adored his nieces and nephews: Phillip Smith, Amy (and Jay)Simonton of Fayetteville, Roger (and Karen) Born of Rex, Gus (and Connie)Born of Monticello, Reneau (and Michael) Karr of Atlanta, Al (and Phyllis) Martin of Stockbridge, Debbie Born of Rex, Deanne (and Tom) Brackett of Clarkesville. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Rock Baptist Church in Rex, GA., with Dr. Don Bazal officiating The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
