Mr. John "Jack" Pfeiffer, Jr., age 87, of Lake Spivey passed away March 3, 2017. Jack was born to John Pfeiffer, Sr. and Sarah Shields Pfeiffer on June 19, 1929 in Asheville, N.C. He grew up in Newton, MA., and graduated in 1951 from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. Later on he earned an MBA at Georgia State University. Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He began his career with the Bell Telephone System in 1954 where he remained until his retirement in 1985. In 1957, Jack married Nancy Vandiver Booth who was "the love of his life." They were happily married for 58 years until her passing in 2015. Jack was very involved in sports and civic affairs. He especially enjoyed playing golf, and he was active in the Clayton County Rotary Club, serving one year as president. He was also active in the Jonesboro United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Jack enjoyed vegetable gardening and took pride in growing for his family. Jack is survived by his three children: Peggy Elder of Pine Mountain, GA, Gordon (Beth) Pfeiffer of the Villages, FL., and Mark (Michelle) Pfeiffer of Greenville, SC. There are seven grandchildren: Lauren (Darren) Hyatt, Kelley (Hunter) Wilds, Molly (Matt) Schanz, Michael (Katharine) Pfeiffer, Christopher Pfeiffer, Brandon Pfeiffer and Courtney Pfeiffer. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Jonesboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. George Freeman officiating. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jonesboro United Methodist Church, 142 S. Main Street, Jonesboro, GA 30236.
