Mr. John "J.B." Sowell age 94 of Lake City passed away January 18, 2023. Mr. Sowell was a member of First Baptist Church of Forest Park and a former member of Ash Street Baptist Church. He was a Mason for 68 years, a Shriner and a member of the Morrow Masonic Lodge 734. He was retired from Ford Motor Company with 38 years of service. He also served on the Lake City City Council for 28 years and was a door keeper for 22 years for the Georgia House of Representatives. He was preceded in death by his wife: Margaret Elizabeth Sowell and son: Michael B. Sowell. He is survived by his children: Susan S. (Wallace) Kyte of Forsyth and Jim (Donna Faye) Sowell of Lilburn; grandchildren: Jason Williams, Jay (Angie) Kyte, Michelle (Chris) Reece, John Sowell, Christopher (Jill) Sowell, Matthew (Danielle) Sowell and Lauren (Ryan) Gillespie; 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; many cousins and extended family.  Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in McDonough. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Friday, January 20, 2023 at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Masonic Home of Georgia, P.O. Box 4183 Macon, GA 31208 in memory of Mr. John "J.B." Sowell.
