Mr. John Samuel Treadwell, age 77, of McDonough Ga (formerly of Jonesboro) passed away on February 9, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents John B and Mary Lois (Charles) Treadwell of Jonesboro; grandparents John B Gordon and Fanny Mae (Tucker) Treadwell of Chatsworth, and Herschel Samuel and Alice (Lattie) Charles of Dalton; niece Suzanne (Raper) Bridges of Jefferson.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary Nellene (Jinks) Treadwell; daughter Angela Michelle Treadwell of Buford, Ga, grandchildren Andrew David Stima and Kate Olivia Stima also of Buford; sisters Victoria Ann (Kelly) Raper of Cumming and Teresa Treadwell Meggs of Sandy Springs; brothers-in-law Gaines N (Teri) Jinks of Villa Rica and Arthur G (Beverly) Jinks of Jonesboro; nieces and nephews Robin (Mike) Muntean of Cumming, Sidney Bridges of Jefferson, Laura (Matt) Veneri of Atlanta, Cheryl Jinks of Hampton, Erin Jinks of Atlanta and Whitney (Palmer) Jones of Smyrna; great nieces and nephews Merry Grace (Jonathan) Arsenault, Christopher (Sandra) Bridges, Josiah (Caroline) Bridges, Hannah (Justin) Smith, Kelley Anne Veneri, Dominic Veneri, Alyssa Lewis, Hunter Herrero, James Herrero, Nahli Jinks, Owens Jones and their extended families.
Mr. Treadwell was a retired music educator with 30 years of service in the Dekalb County School System, and he served for 40 years in the Georgia Air National Guard 530th Band of the South. He attended Salem Baptist Church in McDonough and was a member of The Gideon's International (Clayton County North Camp). His love of music and the bass trombone kept him active in community, church and music ministry for over 59 years, including a three-month Cultural Exchange Tour of the Middle East, travel with the Sons of Jubal & Jubal Brass, International Global Missions Projects and he was a charter member of Tara Winds Symphonic Band. His trombone literally "took him around the world."
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday February 15, 2024, at 1 PM at Salem Baptist Church 1724 GA-155 North, McDonough, Ga 30252 with Pastor Rick Statham and Chaplain (COL) Ron Crews, USA Retired officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30-1 PM at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park, Ga.
