On August 2, 2015, W. Lamar Wilson went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after an extended illness. He was born on May 9, 1929 in Jonesboro, Georgia to the late Weyman R. (Buster) Wilson and Mattie Floyd Wilson. He was preceded in death by his brother, J. R. Wilson. Lamar was a member of First Baptist Church Jonesboro for 64 years. Over the years, he taught Sunday school of nine-year-old boys, teenagers and young adults. For several years he served as a deacon, superintendent of building and grounds, parking committee, and portrayed Uncle Sam in the Fourth of July celebration. Lamar volunteered with the Jonesboro Fire Department for 42 years. Many of those years he served as Assistant Chief. Lamar was the proprietor of W. L. Wilson Electric Company, Inc. in Jonesboro that was formed in the 1950's, and he served as Chairman of Clayton County Electrical Board for 15 plus years. He also served on the Jonesboro Housing Authority. In 1995 he worked with a team of people that developed Atlanta Beach in Clayton County for the 1996 Olympic Beach Volley Ball Venue. After he and his wife retired, they moved to the mountains of North Georgia and resided in Blairsville for the past 15 years. Lamar had a great outlook on life and enjoyed helping people. He loved to make people laugh and was a very kindhearted person who loved his family and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him as a very special man with a great personality. Surviving Lamar is his loving wife of 16 years, Carol B. Wilson of Blairsville, Ga., his daughter, Susan Wilson of Jonesboro, GA., step-daughter, Pamela Duffy of McDonough, GA, sisters, Sara Morgan of Fayetteville, GA., and Joanne Brown and husband, Wayne of Jonesboro, GA., sister-in-law, Rebecca Wilson of Jonesboro, GA., aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 7, 2015, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Jonesboro Worship Center. Dr. Charles Q. Carter and Rev. Irvin Pearre will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 6, 2015, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
