Lawrence "Larry" Sasser age 86 of Jonesboro, GA passed away Wed. July 24, 2013 after an extended illness. He was surrounded by immediate family members and friends. Larry was born June 27, 1927 in Crenshaw County, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil Lawrence Sasser and Ruth Prescott Sasser, and two brothers, Carroll A. Sasser and Johnson Byrd Sasser. He is survived by his Loving wife of 52 years, Joyce Craft Sasser; Children Bryan Douglas Sasser (Maureen Sasser) and Regina Sasser Carter (Bruce T. Carter); Grandchildren, Bridget Corcoran (fiancé Travis Strickland), John Bryan Sasser, Anna Maureen Sasser, Zachary Henderson Carter, and Kathryn Taylor Carter. He is also survived by eight brother and sisters-in-law. Larry and Joyce moved to Jonesboro in October of 1963, and raised their two children. A trustworthy and loyal member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Larry was a faithful man of God and served as a Deacon for many years, and consistently dedicated his service toward Home & Foreign Missions. He was also an active choir member for decades. He loved reading the Scripture and attending Prayer Meetings. He had a tour of duty with the Merchant Marines, and two tours with the US ARMY during WWII. He worked for Liberty National Insurance, Sherwin Williams Company, and built a successful State Farm Insurance Agency beginning February 15, 1963 and retired December 31, 1995. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Jonesboro. Larry's favorite hobbies included playing his harmonica, fishing with his grandchildren, cultivating and sharing his garden with family and dear friends, Robert and Judy DeLoach. In Larry's retirement years, he and Joyce traveled many places, and cherished time spent with loved ones and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2013, 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro Worship Center with Rev. Irvin Pearre and Dr. Mel Blackaby officiating. Remains will be placed in state at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 25, 2013 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
