Mrs. Ruth Cheney, age 87 of Jonesboro, passed away, October 26, 2014. She was born in Atlanta on February 21, 1927 to the late, John Berry and Mattie Floyd Gorman. She was the 7th of 8 children. Mrs. Cheney loved church work, gardening, making ceramic figurines and making candies to give away at Christmas. She was married on July 3, 1943 to her late husband, George Astin Cheney, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her son, Larry Cheney. She is survived by her children, Terry Cheney of Jonesboro, Mike (Rebecca) Cheney of Jonesboro, Randy (Pamela) Cheney of Woodstock; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 30, 2014 in the chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
