Margie Mae Bass Thompson, age 88, of Forest Park, GA went home to our Lord and Savior, November 1, 2018.
Visitation and Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 6th with Visitation beginning at 10am followed by her Memorial Service at 11 am.  Join the family in celebration of Margie's life of service and dedication to her Lord and Savior, family, and community, at First Baptist Church of Forest Park. Graveside Service and Burial will be held Wednesday, November 7th at 3 pm, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Slidell, Louisiana. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ford-Stewart Funeral Home, Jonesboro, GA.
She was born Margie Mae Bass on February 24, 1930, in Lumberton, MS. She graduated from Nichols High School in New Orleans at the age of 16 and continued on to Nursing School at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, LA earning her LPN license, and later earning her Registered Nursing Degree from Clayton Junior College, in Morrow, GA.
Margie was married to her devoted husband of 19 years, Charles H. Thompson, on July, 29, 1995.
Margie worked as an ICU/CCU Nurse and Nursing Supervisor of St Joseph's Infirmary in Atlanta, GA and moved with them in 1978 as it became known as St Joseph's Hospital. Margie went on to retire as Nursing Supervisor of Henry General Hospital in Stockbridge, GA.
Margie's walk with Christ has left an enduring legacy on her family, friends, and community through both her professional and personal life. Her servant's heart led her to volunteer as a nurse at Civitan's summer camp, to homebound members of her community, and praised God for the strength and ability to resuscitate and save the life of a dear neighbor. Margie loved music and sang in the choir at First Baptist Church of Forest Park which was her home church for more than fifty years. She volunteered at her local Senior Center helping individuals to file their taxes. She loved making and sharing preserves from her garden and baked a carrot cake so delicious that it became a favorite Christmas gift. Margie enjoyed painting and continued her education by studying art at Georgia State University. She loved reading, fishing, and family gatherings. Her idea of a perfect vacation day was deep sea fishing in the morning, enjoying a novel in the late afternoon, serving up the day's catch for family dinner, followed by reading to grandchildren and bedtime prayers at night. Margie's New Orleans' roots were evident as friends and family gathered at her home for crab boils, and samplings of her crab cakes, red beans & rice, or pralines. Margie was a wonderful daughter, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The only thing wicked about Margie Mae was her sense of humor and backhand at the ping-pong table!
Margie is survived by her sister, Carolyn Mackell , Huntington Beach, CA; her children; Sharon and (Bill) Cavin, McDonough, GA; (Monique) and Robert Collins, Senoia, GA; Lori and (Dennis) Bosarge, Coden, AL, and Elizabeth and (Jeff) Cook, Big Canoe, GA; her grandchildren: Leanne Fletcher (Trey), Benjamin Cannon (April), Aaron Cavin (Lindsey), Alexis Cook, Carol-Anne Collins, and Sean Collins; along with Margie's sixteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as Charlie's children, (Shirley) and Charles H. Thompson III, Doris and (Jeff) Williamson, Cary and (Teresa) Thompson, Doyle and (Susan) Thompson and Charlie's 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Margie Mae was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Ann Collins, husband, Charles H. Thompson, parents, Robert O. Bass and Elizabeth Saucier Bass, sisters, Sylvia Ellis and Ruth Phillips.
