Opal Thaxton Mann, age 83, of Jonesboro, GA, passed away on August 16, 2013 at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Mann is survived by her husband of 66 years, Willard W. Mann; her daughter, Cheryl Killian and son-in-law, Charles Killian; her childhood friend and aunt, Alice Yarbrough Rosemond; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mann was born, September 23, 1929 in Heard County, GA. She was the daughter of Grady W. Thaxton and Annie Ruth Yarbrough Thaxton. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Nell Julian; and her brothers, Bill and Bobby Thaxton. Mrs. Mann found great joy in her garden, teaching art classes, painting, sewing, quilting, family gatherings and researching family history. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, attending worship several times in the last year of her life. She retired as the Supervisor of Mail and Delivery at the Riverdale Post Office. After retirement, she started a landlord company which her daughter has managed since 2009. Willard and Cheryl would like to thank the wonderful people who helped care for Opal this past year. To just name a few; her good friend, David Samples; her niece, Debbie Goodson; caregivers Kimberly Bright and Kimberly Ferguson; Stacey, Jennifer, Jim, Oliver and Gwen of Gentiva Hospice; the CNA professionals from Family Private Care LLC, especially Miss Abigal Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Monday, August 19, 2013 in the chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 2-5 PM at the funeral home.
