Peggy Jane Folsom Southerland, age 87, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

Born on August 13, 1938, in Hahira, Georgia, Peggy was the daughter of the late Ellie Ruth Shaw Folsom and James Drew Folsom. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Edward Bennan Southerland, twin sister, Martha Fayne Folsom Miley, and older sister, Joyce Elizabeth Folsom Williams.

Peggy and her twin sister Martha enjoyed being cheerleaders at Hahira High School, where she graduated in 1956. After working as a secretary at the ASC Office in Valdosta, Georgia, and at a tire company in Birmingham, Alabama, Peggy devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She took care of the home and the children while Edward traveled for work. She sometimes travelled with him, and they had adventures ranging from seeing the Pacific Ocean , Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon, to New Orleans, and Omaha, Nebraska. Together, she and Edward cheered on the University of Alabama football team and instilled the love of the Tide in their children.
She is survived by her children, Tracey Pickens, Lisa Southerland, and Nancy (Jim) Melcher; her grandchildren, Joshua (Victoria) Owen, Drew Wilkinson, and Samantha Pickens; and her great-grandchildren, Gabby Robson, Scarlett Owen, Tony Owen, and Izzy Owen. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, along with many extended family members and friends.
