Mr. Preston E. Hicks, age 75 of Mableton, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away April 15, 2020. Preston was proud to serve more than 12 years as a helicopter pilot in the United States Marine Corps, including a tour in Vietnam. Following that, Preston became an aircraft accident investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board for more that 20 years. He also, served and flew with the Georgia Army national guard for nine years. After retirement, Preston attended seminary and graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Preston was an active member of FBC Jonesboro for nearly 40 years where he served as a deacon and bible study teacher, sang with the choir and men's ensemble, was licensed to the ministry, and taught seminary extension classes. Upon moving to Mableton, GA, Preston became a member of FBC Marietta. He enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage to his lovely bride, Mrs. Joan Woodward Hicks.
Preston was preceded in death by his parents: Elbert E. and Virginia Hicks. He is survived by his wife: Joan Woodward Hicks, daughter: Valorie McDonald and her husband Christopher of Mableton, and granddaughters: Samantha McDonald and Emily McDonald.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, 10:45 am at First Baptist Church Marietta with visitation to follow the service. Graveside will be Sunday, July 11, 2021, 4:00 pm at Jonesboro Cemetery, Jonesboro, Georgia.
