Obituary

Richard Roe Rayner, age 93, of McDonough, a devoted family man, accomplished golfer, and consummate teller of jokes, passed away at home on January 9, 2026 with his wife and children by his side. Richard was born in Sandy Springs, GA on September 26, 1932 to the late Noah and Kate Rayner. He was also preceded in death by his children; Glenn Richard Rayner, Baby Boy Rayner, Jennifer Rayner Bennett, his sons-in-law; Jim Bennett, Steve Lister, and his five siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife; Grace, his girls; Lisa Kaye Rayner of Athens and Kimberly Rayner Lister of FL, his cherished grandchildren; Brandy Walker (Chris) Hodge, Richard Luke Bennett, Robert Hugh Bennett, Ryan Rayner Bennett, Lydia Grace (Timothy Church) Martin, Caroline Martin (Alex) Hines, Stacey Lister (John) Merritt, Stefanie Lister (Andy) Wardrep, and the greatest of great grandchildren; Walker Hodge, Weston Hodge, Bowen Hines, Brooklyn Hines, Cameron Merritt, Isabel Merritt, sister-in-law; Gail Marsden Hutchins, many nieces, nephews and extended family. As a Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge (CV-33), which earned two battle stars during the war and the nickname "Mighty Kay." A Delta Air Lines Pioneer, Richard traveled extensively for both golf and leisure and had an innate talent for fixing things that, like his swing, came naturally to him. A memorial celebration of Richard's life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at First Christian Church Jonesboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in Alpharetta at 3 PM following the church service.
