Robert Marvin "Bob" Duncan, 84, a native Atlantan, died on Sunday March 6, 2016. Son of the late Mary Ann Momand and Robert Elmore Duncan. In his youth Bob lived between Atlanta and Rock Hill, South Carolina. In his early teens he helped run gaming booths at the Southeastern Fairgrounds. At age 17 he joined the United States Navy and served honorably as a Quartermaster 2nd Class aboard the USS Higbee during the Korean War. Returning to civilian life he worked as part of the ground crew for Delta Airlines while pursuing an education in television and radio repair. He traveled for a while with Westinghouse Electric, wiring telephone switching centers and intercom systems, one notable instance being for the desk of the famed rocket pioneer Wernher von Braun in Huntsville, Alabama . Around 1960, Bob accepted a position in the service department at Dictaphone Corporation of America, installing and repairing voice recorders, eventually joining the sales department. In 1962 he married Sara Frances Walker Duncan. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Momand, his beloved grandfather, Bishop Marvin "Paw" Momand, his devoted Aunt Della Momand Williams and her husband Roland Colcord "Biffo" Williams, Sr., and their son, his cousin , Roland Colcord Williams, Jr. Bob was a loving husband, devoted father, and strived to provide his family with a stability that had been denied him through much of his own youth. He was funny, charismatic, well read, and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was endlessly observant and his fascination with science and history competed with his biblical studies. A dedicated member of the Riverdale Masonic Lodge, he was scheduled to receive a 50 year award in April. Surviving are his loving wife of more than 53 years, Sara Frances Walker Duncan; and his cherished son, Andrew Seward Duncan; both will be at a loss without their husband and father. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Sid Chapman of Faith Untied Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
