Stephanie Smolarek, age 108, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, George Bernard Smolarek, a dedicated 30-year firefighter; her daughter, Diane Koellman; her grandson, Georgie Smolarek; as well as her parents and seven siblings.

Born and raised in Hamtramck, Michigan, Stephanie lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and hard work. As a mother, she was deeply committed to her children's education, ensuring they received a Catholic schooling while working night shifts in factories to support their tuition and contribute to the family's lake cottage in Pontiac, Michigan. Her and her husband's combined salaries also helped support her parents, who lived with them. Her Catholic faith was a central pillar of her life, and she instilled these values in her children.

Stephanie had many passions, including a love for Hollywood films and television, with Murder, She Wrote being one of her favorites. She also enjoyed a wide variety of other movies and shows. A lifelong admirer of the British Royal Family, she closely followed their lives and events. Above all, Stephanie's life revolved around her family and those she loved.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Gerald (Gerry Donna) Smolarek of Beaufort, SC, and Judith Haag-Mercurio of Jonesboro; her grandchildren: Lawrence Smolarek, Quinn Trahan, and Shannon Haag; her great-grandchild, Matthew Trahan; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
