Obituary

Venetta Frances Red Bennett
Venetta Frances Red was born on March 18, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Red of Birmingham, Alabama. Venetta was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Omar Grant Bennett, Sr., a Navy veteran of WW II, who died in 1991. She is survived by her sister-in-law, JoAnn Red, of Birmingham, her son, Grant Bennett and his wife Ileana, two grandchildren, Jennifer Clay and Erik Bennett and Erik's wife, Elise Bennett, six great-grandchildren, Amelia, Cameron, Rio, Landon, Ella, and Grace, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Venetta Bennett lived for many years in Morrow, Georgia, with her husband and continuing for many years following his death. She was and has remained a member of the Tara Church of Christ in Jonesboro, Georgia. In her later years she moved in with her son and his wife in Johns Creek, Georgia, until she suffered a stroke in 2017 that forced her into an assisted living facility near her son's home. She passed peacefully in her room at 3:14 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, August 15, surrounded by family members.
Venetta Bennett was an amazing woman who lived a full life. She was intelligent, sharp, and articulate. She was ahead of her peers and most people much younger than she in her understanding and manipulation of technology. She was very savvy with the Internet, e-mails, scanning, power point, texting, and just about anything connected with computer and smartphone technology. She burned CDs for family and friends, used all kinds of camera devices and techniques, and simply dazzled her friends and family with all that she could do. In addition, Venetta was very accomplished with her crochet skills and made many hats, shawls, and other garments for her friends and family members until she had a stroke at age 99.
Venetta always loved animals deeply, and she nurtured and loved many dogs throughout her lifetime. She adopted her last dog, Alfie, while living with Grant and Ileana. They love Alfie and will always take care of him as she would have done. Alfie is such a sweet and special dog, so reflective of the uniquely wonderful woman who adopted him some 8 years ago.
Venetta Bennett lived for 101 years and 5 months. Her mother, Vera Red, lived until she was almost 101. In fact, Venetta leaves a legacy as matriarch of the third generation in her family whose children have been blessed with the gift of great-grandparents even into their adult years. Venetta did indeed live a long life, but those who knew and loved this remarkable lady would have given the world to have had her around for at least another 101 years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home with Minister Richard Harp officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, GA. The family will receive friends 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, August 18 at the funeral home.
