Virginia Hendry Rountree, of Riverdale, Georgia, passed away August 3, 2013, in Atlanta after a brief illness. Virginia-"Jenny" as she was fondly known by all her friends and family, was born October 23, 1924 in Washington, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late James Hart Hendry and Georgia M. Jackson. She retired from Delta Air Lines in 1959 after 15 years of service, where she was one of the first payroll system operators for Delta President C. E. Woolman. Prior to her stint at Delta, Virginia worked at Atlanta's downtown Rich's department store. Growing up in Washington, Virginia was a member of the Washington First United Methodist Church. She later joined Riverdale Presbyterian Church in Riverdale. Her life was devoted to her family and friends. Her children, Pam and Michael, consider themselves to be two of the luckiest children in the world to have had a Mom such as she was. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband; Ephriam Eugene Rountree, Jr.; sisters, Grace A. Hendry, Mildred M. Hendry and Dicye H. Lucas; and brother, James H. Hendry, Jr. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Pamela D. Rountree of Riverdale, son, Michael E. Rountree and daughter-in-law Leslie L. Rountree of Fayetteville, nieces; Dicye L. (Bootsie) Averette, Sally H. Bufford, Jean L. Cowart, Debbie H. Engen, Mildred L. Hackney; and a nephew, Cicero Lucas II. The family will receive friends on August 5, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, August 6 at 1 p.m., followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. A brief graveside service will follow at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Riverdale. Those desiring may honor Virginia with flowers or a memorial to the charity of their own choosing.
